BUILDING EXPANSION INFORMATION

The Milford Public Library has always been supported by its community.
Now, we need you more than ever!!

(1) Children's Library
A self-contained new wing will be built to serve twice the number of children, ages 1-12. This includes a separate check-out desk, a dedicated librarian, restrooms, security, a kitchenette, a rounded story-pit and personal computers for children.
(2) Personal Computer Room
A secure new 24-bay personal computer room, located near the main check-in desk, will double patron access to critical technology. PCs will provide free use of the internet and a wide range of databases and search engines.
(3) Research & Study Rooms
Two new dedicated study rooms and a large, separate research area will meet patrons' needs for quiet areas to do their work.
(4) More Books & Materials
The expansion will increase library size from 12,109 to 21,941 square feet, providing 75% more shelf space for books, DVDs and periodicals.
(5) Improved Access
An elevator and a wide stairwell within a new tower will provide easier access at ground level from the parking lot. Increased parking will also be provided.
(6) Community Meeting Rooms
Four flexible new meeting rooms will serve the community's needs, allowing after-hour access.

Over the past 15 years......
use of the Milford Public Library has grown by 122%.
Today 255 new patrons join the Library every month
and more than 500 use it daily.
A recent patron survey identified these critical needs:
* A larger, better equipped children's area
* Quiet areas and rooms for research and study
* More personal computer stations
* Greater shelf space for books and materials
* Improved access to the library
* More community meeting space
The library Board commissioned a new design of the Library
that meets all of these needs - while keeping
the Milford Public Library at its existing downtown location.

Expansion of the Milford Public Library will require $3.6 million from various sources - state, city, foundations, local citizens, and businesses. We must raise half of the funds in order to qualify for state support.
